BRING YARN AND LEAVE YOUR INHIBITIONS AT THE DOOR

I have a crush on Hannibal’s weird accent thing.

I have no idea, but I just love the way he talks

I now realize that the actor who plays Hannibal is Dutch…. this accounts for the accent… I am still in love with it however

NeuroKnitting

Project uses brainwave activity to create generative knitting patterns - video embedded below:

We have plotted brainwave activity into a knitted pattern. Using a wearable, non-invasive EEG headset, we recorded users’ affective states while listening to Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”, concretely the aria and its first seven variations. The audio was about 10 minutes long and we downsampled each second of the signal coming from the 14 channels of the EEG device. Three main features were measured: relaxation, excitement, and cognitive load.  After recording, those features were converted into a knitting pattern. Hence, every stitch of a pattern corresponds to a unique brain state stimulated by the act of listening. It means the user’s affective response to music is captured every second and memorised in the knitted garment pattern.

Got an idea for something cool last night…
Gonna take a long long time to hash out buuuut
If I am successful, this could be quite awesome.

Finished Object: Doctor Who Scarf

After a long long time, I have finally finished the Doctor Who Scarf I have been working on. Whoo.

For those who are interested in perhaps partaking in this fun adventure for your own (Which, I actually encourage… if anything, you will be a MASTER at the knit/garter stitch at the end of it) here is a quick ATQTMBFA (Answers to questions that might be frequently asked…… yes. I do think I am funny…)

The pattern I personally used was from Doctorwhoscarf.com There is another site devoted to the scarf: Wiley Little Knitter

Both sites are pretty great, as they have various patterns from the different seasons of the scarves, along with yarn recommendations and tips etc. I personally used the first season 12 pattern.

It was made on US 5 straight needles.

My scarf measures at 11 feet long, and just over 11 inches wide (I tend to knit at a bigger gauge, so while the patterns all suggest you have 60-66 sts across, I only had 48). I know I could have blocked it to be longer/skinner however. But I like it the way it is now, so I am keeping it.

The yarn I used was Vanna’s Choice aran. 170 yds/skein. It’s 100% acrylic, which means it is not as soft as it could be, but I find it feels just fine. It’s a good choice if you are looking for something that will not break the bank. The two websites above have some other yarn suggestions if you are looking to spend a bit more or something.

Colours: Mustard 158 (2 skeins) Beige 123 (3 skeins) Brick 133 (2 skeins) Toffee 124 (2 skeins) Wildberry 141 (2 skeins) Olive 174 (2 skeins) Charcoal Grey 151 (2 skeins)

However, I will be honest…. I had one full skein left over for most of the colours. One the Grey and Olive, I had to use both skeins, however, I only used like maybe a yard of yarn from each, just to have the tassels. Like I said earlier, I knit at a bigger gauge usually, so take my yarn measurements with a grain of salt.

Anyway. I am just uber proud of it. Here, have some more pictures!

So. After a long hard day at work, I decided to sit down and relax by knitting. Though I didn’t wanna work on Doctor Who Scarf, so I decided to make myself a hat. Had no idea what kind of hat to make though…
After stumbling up this post of the fandom colours and rummaging through the spare yarn I had I decided to make a SuperWhoLock hat.
Yup.
(I know the purple looks a bit grey in the picture… but I assure you it really is purple… my camera just sucks…and the yarn is a purple/grey colour… whatever it’s whatever I had on spare)

Magic: The Gathering Black Mana hat.

Still have a few…. well a lot of kinks to work out with the overall design. But, it’s not terrible I think.

Experimenting with translating the Black Mana pattern I made onto a hat.
I started the pattern too high, but other than that, I am happy with how it is coming out so far.
I also have Green and Blue mana patterns, still working out the kinks for Red and White mana…. I shall make myself a bunch of hats eventually methinks haha.

Starting a Doctor Who Scarf for my dear friend today. Let’s see how long this takes!

15 skeins of yarn, whew.

My ever growing knitting needle collection.
I like to keep them organized.
I really hope to get a good set of interchangeable circulars, and then I think I will be set for the most part.
I really like knitting on wood, if you couldn’t tell…

Step by Step progression of one of my colour designs.

I like making pictures in knitting. I am always striving to get better at various colour work.

This is a mock up of the Green Mana from a set of Magic: The Gathering hats I am designing.

I make nerdy things.
